It was a whirlwind weekend, but now that we have a house in Northern New Mexico, I like to go there as much as possible, especially when Victor is staying there for weeks at a time. Because of my work schedule, I flew out of LAX on Friday night and back on Monday morning. This was the only stressful part of the whole experience.
The blessing is that in New Mexico, time slows down. It could also be the fact that I was outside my normal routine. In either case, my two days felt like two weeks – in the best possible way. We visited friends and family and had beautiful conversations with wonderful people.
Some highlights:
We visited Victor’s father and stepmom, Porfirio & Orlinda.
At a certain point, cousin Manuel and his wife Angie showed up and Victor got to see them for the first time in many years.
Then it was off to visit Uncle Joe and Aunt Geri for a sweet visit.
And dinner with old friends and new at the Rancho de Chimayó restaurant.
Isn’t it crazy how much Victor resembles Hermenegildo Jaramillo, the grandfather of his cousin Arturo who, along with wife Florence, started the Rancho de Chimayó restaurant in 1965? Remarkable.
